It started with a young man’s gift to his mother
Harper cleaning tools have been the favorite for home and industrial use since 1900. It all started when Alphonso K. "A.K." Harper, a young entrepreneur, watched his mother's daily struggle to scrub floors and keep other surfaces clean. He was inspired to create his first five-piece combination brush kit which was hand-crafted from horse hair.
A spirit of entrepreneurship
The next year, Harper Brush Works, Inc. was founded. College students were hired to make the brushes part-time during the school year and travel full-time during the summer selling them from their wagons. In 1925, Harper Brush Works started making industrial cleaning tools as well as household products, beginning the evolution of a diverse family of Harper products to suit a variety of specialized cleaning applications, often in direct response to customer suggestions.
A legacy of quality
Since those early days, no matter how tough the cleaning challenge, there’s been a hardworking Harper tool to help overcome it. Here’s what makes us different
Harper push brooms can be instantly identified by the trademark painted ends. A few other features that set Harper apart from the competition include:
- Use of furniture-grade premium hardwood to prevent cracking and warpage to provide the best surface contact for better cleaning, while ensuring fibers are held tight and won’t drop from the broom head.
- Handle connectors designed for extra durability, fit securely into connector slots in the broom head.
- Steel braces to reduce strain and stabilize the broom head. The braces are powder coat-finished for long life.
- Premium-quality polystyrene fiber specific to the cleaning need for highest quality sweeping performance and longer life; will not set or develop “memory.”
- Premium synthetic or natural bristles to match the specific task; properly spaced to sweep away debris with one push and have the correct flare and length to make cleanup easier and more efficient.
